In our restaurant we use extra virgin olive oil to dress the dishes. Let`s see what amazing benefits it has for health!
Traditionally a low-fat diet has been prescribed to prevent various diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. While studies have shown that high fat diets may increase the risk of certain diseases such as cancer and diabetes, it appears that it is the type of fat that counts rather than the amount of fat.
About 24% of the oil is saturated fats and omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. But the predominant (73%) fatty acid in olive oil is a monounsaturated fat called oleic acid, which is extremely healthy. Oleic acid is believed to help reduce inflammation, and may have beneficial effects on genes linked to cancer.
Extra virgin olive oil is fairly nutritious. Apart from its beneficial fatty acids, it contains modest amounts of Vitamins E and K.
Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat which research suggests helps prevent or slow down the cognitive decline associated with diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Since extra virgin olive oil assists in the prevention and/or reduced impact of so many diseases – including certain cancers – it’s no exaggeration to say it may even help you live longer!
Choose dishes with extra virgin olive oil and be healthy!
